ANNOUNCEMENT

Science Education Quality Improvement Programme 2009-10

There is widespread recognition that for the last few centuries the intellectual activity of the Muslim Community has mainly been confined to literature, religious studies and a few subjects in social sciences, and that an inclination towards scientific pursuit has gradually waned. In this context, it may be recalled that Muslim scientists made significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology between 700 and 1400 AD. This was possible because of the interest and perseverance of individuals and support extended by the establishment to science education and research. The contribution of Muslims in terms of both the quality and quantity of research output has been on the decline, and it is not only necessary to take remedial measures, but also to examine the reasons of this malady. It is also widely recognized that no country, a sizeable population of which is left out of the mainstream of scientific pursuits, can make progress in the true sense. The welfare and progress of the Nation demands that a more focused and concerted effort is made for educating the Muslims than has hitherto been done.

The inception of the Centre for Promotion of Science, Aligarh Muslim University, has its roots in this realization. The Centre has been working to redeem this situation since 1985. The main objectives of the Centre are:

a)   To create a national awareness, particularly amongst Indian Muslims, of the importance of acquiring scientific knowledge and to provide possible help to minimize their backwardness in science education.

b)   To facilitate introduction of regular science teaching in Madrasas, and help improve the quality of science education in Muslim managed schools.

In pursuance of these objectives, the Centre for Promotion of Science, AMU is organizing the following Courses for teacher participants as a part of its Science Education Quality Improvement Programme:
